Mr. James Victor (“Vic”) van Zyl is a highly accomplished operations executive with more than 30 years of leadership experience in chemical manufacturing, industrial operations, and largescale process industries across Southern Africa. A Mechanical Engineering professional holding both Government Certificates of Competency (GCC) for Mines & Works and Factories, Vic brings a unique combination of technical excellence, operational leadership, and strategic governance to the organisation.
Throughout his career, Vic has held executive and board-level leadership positions within the chlor-alkali industry, overseeing complex manufacturing operations, greenfield project development, process safety management, and capital expansion programmes. He has led organisations with full operational and profit-and-loss accountability while successfully managing multidisciplinary teams of more than 1,000 employees and implementing worldclass operational excellence initiatives.
Vic possesses extensive expertise across the entire chlor-alkali value chain, including upstream raw material management, chlorine and caustic soda production, environmental stewardship, quality management, and regulatory compliance. His leadership has consistently delivered improvements in operational efficiency, process reliability, and safety performance while
maintaining compliance with internationally recognised standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, Responsible Care, and Major Hazard Installation (MHI) regulations.
In addition to his extensive manufacturing experience, Vic has successfully developed and commissioned greenfield industrial projects and circular economy ventures, including a solvent recovery facility in Mauritius and recycling infrastructure in South Africa. His broad international experience across South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, Botswana, and the wider Southern African region provides him with a deep understanding of industrial project execution, environmental sustainability, corporate governance, and stakeholder management.
As Chief Operating Officer, Vic is responsible for leading the Company’s operations strategy, commissioning activities, manufacturing performance, process safety, engineering, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. His proven ability to build highperforming teams, optimise complex industrial operations, and foster a culture of operational excellence will play a critical role in supporting the successful commissioning and long-term growth of the Company’s chlor-alkali operations
